Based in Melbourne, Mark has been working predominantly as an oil painter for the last 18 years. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Victoria, been shortlisted for a number of national awards, and was the winner of the Whyalla Art Prize in South Australia (2011) and the John Leslie Art Prize (2004).
Over his career, the works have changed dramatically regarding technique, scale and imagery but the underlying motif has always been to find new ideas. His piece Cabin in the Woods is about balancing feelings of familiarity while provoking a sense of something new and unknown.
Although each element of the work is considered within its narrative and visual field, the imagery ultimately becomes a consequence to the exploration of new ideas.
