Legler was born in Switzerland and grew up in Italy. He studied architecture in Zurich until relocating to the US to specialise in industrial design
With a fascinating background spanning architecture, interior design and chemical plastics, Legler's early designs still resonate today. His most widely acclaimed design, the Basket Chair (1951), received a good design award from the MoMA in New York. Originally designed for a restaurant in Italy, its beauty and simplicity have made it a classic the world over.
In 1961 Legler returned to Zurich, continuing his work as a designer until 2007.
