Master the Art of Layering to Create a Dream-Like Bedroom

Layering fabrics creates a bedroom that is at once warm and restful as well as stylish and luxurious. The combination of various colours and textures draped on and around each evokes a sense of richness and luxury that can help you create a bedroom oasis that will induce the sweetest of slumbers.

Here, we've pulled together our top tips to help you master the art of layering your fabrics just so.

Start with a Colour Palette

To begin, start with a colour palette that makes sense for your current bedroom and your personal style preferences. From here, there are two ways you can go about layering.

Firstly, you can choose one colour as your base, and then layer different fabrics in various tones of this base colour. Try adding one element that isn't part of the base colour scheme, such as a bright cushion, as this will add interest to the overall look.

Alternatively, you can opt for an all round neutral colour palette and use this as the base for your layering. You could, for example, layer navy sheets with an olive green duvet and top this with a white throw and charcoal pillows.

Using either of these techniques will help you create a serene and cohesive look.

Keep Textures Simple

Achieving the right textures plays a big part in nailing the layering technique. Remember not to go too overboard when trying to create depth. Simplicity is key.

Choose just two or three different textures or fabrics you'd like to use and ensure they work well together. Start with simple base layers, such as linen or cotton which will work well to ground the look. Then get creative and use beautiful knitted throws or velvet cushions to add that textural richness and depth.

Quality Over Quantity

"The quality of the layers you use will significantly impact the overall look of your bedroom", says Curious Grace stylist Anoek Wielakker.

"The Bedouin Society linen we stock is a great base layer and it washes beautifully over time, making this linen a heirloom piece you can pass on to your children."

Then simply add some mix and matched cushions and a thick, plush throw to achieve a look that is lush and dreamy enough to fall asleep in!
