From our stylists: their 5 Favourite Armchairs and how to style them

3 min read

There are many ways to introduce colour and character to your home, but none is quite as adept at defining your own personal style – or as comfortable!
– as the classic armchair.

From size and shape to fabric and finish, a well-designed armchair is often the last piece in the puzzle when it comes to making your interiors feel complete, adding that much needed finishing touch of colour, comfort and character.

Here, the Curious Grace Team have chosen their favourite armchairs and occasionals and given their best advice on how to style them.

The Mellow Chair - Catherine Prowse, Styling Consultant

"The Mellow Chair is like a gorgeous cloud that you can curl up in to read a book as it swaddles you in its luxurious coloured velvet", says Catherine.

"I love its deco form, curved arms and wide seating, which make it the perfect statement chair to have near a fire, or placed in the corner of a room.

"Team it with our La Lampe Gras standing lamp and a Mr Frag Cloud side table set. Add a textured throw draped over the arm - all ready fireside."

The Mariposa - Pierre Pulizzi, National Sales Manager

"The Mariposa is an incredibly versatile piece, that works well in most spaces and alongside most other pieces of furniture," says Pierre.

"It's lovely sloping shape give it a relaxed and casual look that is still refined and maintains a sense of sophistication.

Available in leather and sheepskin, you can opt for a material that is best suited to your space. The leather has a strong masculine feel which looks excellent in a lounge room teamed with a sofa. Conversely, the rich sheepskin gives this design a softer feminine feel, so cosy and tactile, everyone wants to snuggle into it!"

The Mango Chair - Paul McQuillan, Styling Consultant

"A little quirky and full of character, the Mango Chair is a perfect piece to finish off any room. It's distinctive shape not only makes it comfortable, but also a statement piece that adds interest to your interiors", says Paul.

"It's also a great way to add a dash of colour into your living room, as you can customise the fabric to suit your home. Choose a darker velvet for something lux and masculine, or else a paler pastel that's pretty in a light, airy space."

I love the Mango Chair in this divine Gold Mustard. It stands out, but pairs surprisingly well with so many other colours. Don't forget the matching footstool - this little gem takes the Mango to the next level of comfort."

The Dedo Lounge Chair - Ella Potterton, Trade Consultant

"The beautiful craftsmanship of this armchair is evident in its smooth contours and rich leather," says Ella.

The name 'Dedo' was chosen as an affectionate Bosnian word for grandpa - the rulers in history of lazy chairs. This makes sense given the incredible comfort of this chair, which offers the perfect place to curl up with a good book... or for a nap!

"Dedo's light, timeless look makes it extremely versatile and really requires very little styling. It looks just as at home in a light, contemporary space as it would sitting fire-side in a dimly lit library."

The Penelope Quilted Occasional Chair - Madeleine Pulver, Styling Consultant

"There is something so lush and rich about the Penelope Quilted Occasional Chair," says Maddie.

"It's beautifully rounded back and quilted padding makes it incredibly comfortable, while still giving it a playful, retro edge."

The navy velvet upholstery looks amazing swathed in a sheepskin throw and placed next to a dark leather sofa. If you're looking for something more feminine, the dust berry velvet colour looks great teamed with smooth oak timber and shades of grey."
